With the launch, the exercise of giving a new name to the station was going on for a long time. Firstly there was a proposal to name the station after Bharat Ratna former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Bajpayee. Which was agreed upon by all.

On which later almost everyone has agreed. Only after this the state government sent the proposal to the Union Home Ministry. It is mentioned in the proposal that 16 Bhopal was under the Gond rulers in the 12th century.

Nizam Shah, son of Gond king Suraj Singh Shah, was married to Queen Kamalapati. The queen had bravely faced the invaders throughout her reign. As an expression of gratitude towards keeping the memories of Gond Rani intact and her sacrifice On the occasion of Tribal Pride Day on November, the State Government has decided to rename Habibganj station as Rani Kamalapati Railway Station.

He had also sanctioned Rs 7 crore. With this amount, new buildings and five platforms were built on both sides of the station.

On the other hand, politics has also started heating up regarding the change of name of Habibganj station. Congress MLA from Bhopal (Central) Arif Masood has objected to this and said that BJP should focus on development works instead of changing the name. Habibganj station land was donated by Habib Mian, hence it was named Habibganj.
