Premvijay Patil * Dhar. In the district, the Forest Department has done such work in eight months which will always remain exemplary from the point of view of nature and environment. Generally, the seeds of many important species are destroyed due to the eating of animals, burning in fire etc. The Forest Department has done the work of collecting seeds of about 30 species of plants. In this, about 13 thousand 244 kilo seeds have been stored in six forest zones. One kg of seed has the capacity to produce at least 10 to 15 thousand plants. Now soon these seeds will be planted in the barren hills with animal protection and efforts will be made to make the hills green.

In this regard, Forest Divisional Officer Akshay Rathod said that in October 2020, we started the campaign to collect seeds. It was very special for us. We have seen that the various forestry species of the local forest of tribal dominated district, their seeds are never collected, while nature itself does the work of producing seeds in large quantities. The seeds are destroyed by animal grazing and fire. In such a situation, we started the work of collection of seeds in the seed season of the tree. We got great success in this. There are Sardarpur, Tanda, Bagh, Kukshi, Mandu and Dhamnod forest areas in the district. Whatever local species we had in these forest areas, we did the work of collecting it through the field team of the department. In this 13 thousand 244 kg have been obtained from seed form. He said that it is not possible to estimate the cost of this seed as the seeds of such species are not available in the market. If we go to the market to buy, the price might be in lakhs of rupees. In this we have collected seeds of many other species of acacia, tamarind, amaltas, bamboo, cilantro, khair, teak and grass. Our team worked for eight months.

Try greenery by planting seeds

Forest Divisional Officer Akshay Rathod told that after drying these seeds, pure seeds have been prepared. The preparations for their planting have been started. We have listed the suitable catchment area for this. It is mainly seen in this that where there is an animal resistant trench i.e. CPT, contour trench and other water structure, then the seeds will be divided species wise and planted. He said that 20 to 30 thousand seeds per kg have been obtained in the mixture of species like Khair, Acacia, Custar etc. They will be sown in three lines. One kilogram of seed is sufficient for 500 running meters CPT. At the same time, in place of dead plants, soil will be planted by digging and planting seeds. In other species, if we look at the condition of one kg of seeds, there are 10 to 15 thousand seeds. It is expected that apart from making the forest green, this will help in conserving the local species.
