he was the year when Atalji’s father Krishna Bihari Vajpayee became the principal of the Anglo Vernacular Middle (AVM) school located at Badnagar in Ujjain district. In this school, son Atal Bihari Vajpayee was enrolled in the fifth standard. Then this school used to be located in Rai Saheb ki Haveli located here. Later AVM School merged with Sarvodaya Vidyalaya and presently that school is run under the name of Utkrisht Higher Secondary School. This school has kept that register on its chest like a heritage even today, whose page number 32 But it is recorded that ‘Atal Bihari Vajpayee enrolled here on 4th August 1934 and on 5th July he left school and went to Gwalior for further studies.

Dinesh Tiwari, a resident of Badnagar, says- ‘The soil of Badnagar is blessed that here Atalji learned to give a speech, we have heard from the mouth of our elder generation that Atalji gave such a speech in childhood. That everyone had been listening. From here such a unique and popular style of giving speech developed in him that then he spoke like this throughout his life that the whole country kept listening to him.

Atalji kept remembering Badnagar

Sweet memories of that year spent in Badnagar in childhood were always recorded in Atalji’s mind. On 2nd August 2002 a group of litterateurs and journalists of Badnagar under the leadership of then Union Minister Dr. Satyanarayan Jatiya had reached to meet Atalji. Then Atalji was thrilled on hearing the name of Badnagar. He also mentioned that he was a classmate of lyricist poet Pradeep in Badnagar.
