STP Plant Indore : Naveen Yadav, Indore. A sewerage treatment plant (STP) in Indore city, which has written a new chapter in cleanliness, is using natural methods to clean the dirty water. The help of earthworms is being taken to clean the dirty water in the STP built at Pipalyahana intersection. Apart from this, the water is completely cleaned with the help of wood sawdust, stone and bacteria. After this this water is released into the Pipalyahana pond. In just two hours 350 kilo liters per day (KLD) of water gets purified. About two lakh rupees per month are spent on the operation of the plant. This is the only STP in the state to do this kind of innovation.

in the city 582 STPs are operating, but the STP built at Pipalyahana intersection has been built with a different technology. In this, the help of Advance Growth Biological Recirculating Reactor is being taken to clean the contaminated water.

According to Sunil Gupta, Executive Engineer of the Municipal Corporation, this plant is being called

Three storeys have been built in thousand square feet. This is primarily the technology of a Singapore based company. It has been established with his help. Its cost is one crore 95 lakh rupees. In this plant, the sewerage of the 60 colonies of Pipalyahana area comes.

Plant works like this

of Deputy Engineer Akash Jain According to this, the dirty water coming from the colonies fills in a big tank. Here such wastes are separated which cannot be treated. The sludge is then removed by pouring this sewage water into a large tank. After this, the extracted water is put in the earthworm plant. The water released from here is put into the plant containing bacteria. Here stones of one to three inches have been placed in the upper surface, on which bacteria have been put. Even by the time 80 percent of the water gets cleaned. After this the water goes to another tank. From here the pressure goes to the tank and then to the carbon filter. Lastly there is the Ultra Filtration Tank, in which the water is purified from the Ultra Violet rays. This clean water is released into the pond.

earthworm feces mixed with wood sawdust to make compost

400 Earthworms have been kept in the square feet plant. In this, water pipes have been inserted at the bottom and wood sawdust has been put on top, on which earthworms have been released. The sewage water coming here is released with the help of sprinklers. Earthworms eat the carbon particles present in it and the excreta they excrete mixes with the wood sawdust.

Disc filters (nets) are fitted in the tank, which do not allow earthworm feces and sawdust to go down, while the water is filtered out. According to Nonit Luhadia, the director of the agency operating the tank, a one-feet thick layer gets deposited on the nets in a year. Which we take out and dry and after some time it turns into manure.
