Chhatarpur (Naiduniya representative). In the village Palkonha, Dhodhan, Khariani of Bijawar section and village Kushmad of Bakswaha tehsil, the shehnai is not being played in the houses due to the problem of water. At the same time, people are worried due to deepening of severe water crisis in many villages around Harpalpur under Naugaon tehsil. People have started yearning for water drop by drop. People are compelled to carry water after facing difficulties in the villages. About 5 km from Bakswaha headquarter. Men and women of the village are risking their lives for water in Kushmand, a small village with a population of close 600 located at a distance. Huh. All the water sources have dried up here. A little water at the foot of a dry well is quenching the people here. The men of the village with the help of a rope

  • Feet deep down in this well, they fill the water in the vessel with a glass from a little water stored in the foothills. Then this vessel is tied with a rope, which is pulled up by the women standing at the bottom of the well. Villager Devendra Namdev, who lives in the village, tells that there are four wells, six hand pumps in Kushmad village. All these are almost dry. Handpumps give out a little muddy water. No one wants to marry his daughter because of the water problem in this village, due to which the shehnai has not been played in this village for years.

Palkohan-Dhodhan residents drinking poison not water

Near Ken-Shyamari river under Bijawar section amidst dense forest of Panna National Park People of settled Palkonha and Dhodhan villages are also thirsty even after living on the banks of two rivers. These people are drinking poison in the name of water. In fact, the cattle bathe in the thin stream of the river and the carcasses of the dead cattle flowing into the river also pollute the water. In both these villages, from March to July, the water level drops so much that the wells in the village dry up. Then it becomes the compulsion of the people of the village to drink the water of the river, even if it is dirty and smelly. The women and children of the village, after completing the household chores in the morning, cover long distances and bring dirty water from the thin stream of the river with the help of lotus, then filter it and drink it. Due to the problem of water for six months in a year, people in this village are not ready to marry their daughters, due to which the number of virgins in these villages is also increasing rapidly.

Trouble in Khariani village nestled in dense forest

Bamitha. The people of Kharyani village, situated on the banks of river Shyamari and Ken river in the dense forest of Panna Tiger Reserve, are also thirsty by staying on the banks due to the dirty water of the river. Due to the inaccessible road, the fear of displacement every time and the water crisis, even in Khariani village, bachelors are not able to get married. Due to the flood of rivers in the rain, this village gets cut off. Then for eight months people come only by boat. After this, four months have to travel by inaccessible road. The dirty water of the river has to be carried from far away, this problem gets worse in summer. It is said that

due to lack of means of transportation and water scarcity, no one wants to marry his daughter to the boys of this village. Because of this, dozens of boys in this village are bachelors. People say that earlier this village was to be displaced by Panna Tiger Reserve, now it is to be displaced by Ken-Betwa link project. If the compensation amount is good, then the people of this village will settle on the roadside, then at least the bride of the virgins of the village will start getting it.

Thirst not quenched even after spending lakhs

Harpalpur. Harpalpur area under Naugaon tehsil people are troubled by drinking water crisis in dozens of villages. The Naljal scheme, which is being operated by spending lakhs of rupees in Gram Panchayat Bhadra, Paretha, Gudho, Karatha, Lahdara, has also not been able to quench the thirst of the people. For drinking water, people have to carry water from many kilometers away, due to which their whole day is spent in carrying water. Villagers say that a decade ago the Naljal scheme was approved by spending lakhs of rupees, which has become a showpiece due to the negligence of the officials. Villagers told that half-incomplete pipeline was laid in the village due to Naljal scheme, pump house was built by doing tubal mining, but water could not reach the houses. So people are facing water crisis. In Gram Panchayat Kararaganj, water would be supplied from the water tank, but due to non-availability of supply, the village is facing water crisis. The water in the hand pumps and wells has dried up due to the ever-decreasing ground water level. People are complaining that the responsible officers are busy in removing the water crisis by not coming to the ground and sitting in the office itself.

    They say –

Ken- Now the process of displacement of Palkonha, Dhodhan, Khariani villages is going on in the Betwa River Linking Project. Facilities will be mobilized at the new place.
