Anand Mohan Mathur, Former Advocate General
India had endured about 250 years of British rule, thousands of people were hanged, thousands died living in Kalapani, thousands were shot, after that India got independence on 15 August 1947. The first few years were spent suffering the pain of partition and then the chapter of rebuilding the country began under the leadership of Jawaharlal Nehru. From darkness to light and from the old world to the new world" country of

This newspaper, which was given the name AboutGyan, was published from Kadavghat in Indore, being of four pages. Its editor-in-chief was Indore MP Krishnakant Vyas, but in fact the credit for running the newspaper went to Rahul Barpute and Ranveer Saxena. Krishnakant Vyas was an editor by the name. Me, Ranveer and Baba (Rahul Barpute) were close friends. At that time the salary of the editor was Rs 50 per month and Baba used to get this salary in two-three pieces. Ranveer meanwhile became the editor of Navprabhat. All three of us were influenced by leftist ideology and our writing was also leftist. One day Ranveer wrote a Left-influenced editorial in Navprabhat. On the very next day he got the notice of termination of service. Ranveer took up a job as an assistant professor in college, but continued writing and writing together with AboutGyan.
Special on the foundation day of Nai Duniya: Public education of the newspaper’s anniversary and challenges of the times
This was the time of Madhya Bharat, in which the capital was Indore for five months and Gwalior for seven months. AboutGyan got great support from young writers and poets. AboutGyan was so important and weighty that only one whom he supported in Indore could win the Lok Sabha elections from the city. At the same time, the influence of Homi Daji increased in Indore, who was a good lawyer, but used to lead the workers. Intake was in effect in all the mills. Against this, Homi Daji organized the workers on behalf of the Communist Party and along with it the leaders of the Socialist Party were Laxmishankar Shukla, Govardhanlal Ojha. It can be said that then Madhya Pradesh had Communist Party and Socialist Party as opposition to Congress government. To give voice to these people, Purushottam Vijay brought out a newspaper, whose name was Indore Samachar. There were also young writers and poets in it. In the case of news then it appeared that AboutGyan supported the idea of the government, while the Indore news was opposed to the policies of the government. But the AboutGyan newspaper kept a lot of balance.

Later on, two talented young men entered the new world. The first was Rajendra Mathur and the second was Saroj Kumar. When Baba gave a signal to Babu Labhchand to take some rest, Rajendra Mathur took over the reins of AboutGyan. Saroj Kumar used to write a poetry column in the newspaper.
In those days, a very big incident happened in India that on 23 June 1975, Justice Sinha of Allahabad High Court canceled the election of Indira Gandhi. There was panic all over the country and consultations took place at the government level. On the advice of Education Minister Siddhartha Shankar Ray and leading lawyers of the Supreme Court, it was decided to impose a state of emergency under Article 352 of the Constitution. After this decision, the then President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed was signed at 12 o’clock in the night and the arrest of the opposition leaders started in the night itself. The background of this was that the youth of the country did not accept that he should remain on the post of Prime Minister, whose election has been canceled by the High Court. The leader of this movement was Jayaprakash Narayan and he challenged Indira Gandhi. This was the reason that the leaders of the opposition Atal Bihari Vajpayee, LK Advani, Arun Jaitley, George Fernandez were arrested and put in jail. Article 19 and 21 were both suspended. Therefore, the arrest of any leader could not be challenged by writ in the High Court.
Special on 75th Foundation Day: Death of Benazir and Title of AboutGyan
Emergency meant a complete ban on speech, writing, reading and expression of any kind, including freedom of the press.
It was the courage of AboutGyan and its editor Rajendra Mathur that the editorial column was left blank against this ban. It was a new form of protest. It was highly praised everywhere, but PC Sethi’s government removed Rajendra Mathur’s warrant, which was later canceled by PC Sethi. After this, Rajendra Mathur wrote about six articles against the Emergency, which was liked by every man and considered valuable by many people.
75th Foundation Day Special: I too love AboutGyan
Once the Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh Justice PK Tare gave a speech at the Rotary Club on Pakistan’s foreign policy. Rajendra Mathur wrote an editorial criticizing Judge Tare, in which it was written that the number of constitutional posts, their limit is given in the constitution and no one can violate it. If any comment has to be made about the foreign policy of Pakistan or to justify it, then only the one to whom the Constitution has given the right can do it. The Constitution has given these rights only to the Prime Minister and the External Affairs Minister. The Chief Justice of Madhya Pradesh has no right to comment. Angered by this, the High Court stopped the advertisements of AboutGyan. AboutGyan complained about this to the Press Council, whose reply was sought from the Chief Justice and the Chief Justice ended the dispute by withdrawing the circular.
AboutGyan has awakened the people of Madhya Pradesh for their rights. Worked fearlessly and never bowed down to untruth. Gave many talented journalists to the journalist world. On my behalf, I congratulate all the owners, editors, employees of AboutGyan on their 75th foundation day.
